Osprey's Elite Series #62, American Civil War Zouaves (Plate E3) is the source for this set.  A photo of a soldier from the unit can be seen on page 24 of the same book and one of a soldier of Co. A of the 23rd Massachusetts is also shown on page 25 wearing a similar zouave uniform.  The book indicates that the Salem Light Infantry was founded as state militia in 1805 but renamed themselves the Salem Zouaves when they served as Co. I, 8th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Militia.
